Brunel’s SS Great Britain is now one of the world’s most exciting historic ships, with plenty to offer visitors of all ages and interests. Winner of 10 major awards including "Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2007", European Museum of the Year’s "Micheletti Award", and the Gulbenkian Prize for UK Museum of the Year.

There are interactive displays, audio ’companions’, including special tours for children, and the amazing glass ’sea’.

Step back in time and become a passenger to New York, or Melbourne, on board the world’s first luxury liner. Explore Brunel’s ss Great Britain, and discover what life was like for First Class and Steerage. There is even an audio tour for visitors who want to find out more about the technology, and engineering, which made this Victorian ship so special.(Audio guides are also available in French and German).

Young children have fun searching for ’Sinbad, the Ship’s Cat’, in the new Dockyard Museum, on board ship, and when they descend under the glass ’sea’ to stand next to the awe-inspiring hull and propeller.

Access for all means that there are lifts for wheelchair users, British Sign Language video guides for Deaf visitors, and audio guides for the visually impaired.

Whether aged 3 or 93, there is so much to discover about the ss Great Britain, her conservation, her history, true stories of Victorian passengers and crew and Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Last year 16,000 school children enjoyed a day out of the classroom exploring the ship. Many schools return each year as the Education Team continually builds on its reputation for exciting workshops and learning resources.

Special interest groups often enjoy listening to the fascinating story of the ship from one of the Trust’s expert speakers.
