Lacock Abbey

Laycock Abbey & Fox Talbot Museum

Lacock Abbey is a country house created out of a medieval abbey which was the home of William Henry Fox Talbot, a pioneer of photography.
A day out would include a visit to the Medieval cloistered abbey that was converted into a fine country house, newly-restored botanic gardens, a fascinating museum dedicated to the ’Father of Modern Photography’ and a uniquely preserved country village. The Abbey has also been a location for many films including Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Moll Flanders and Emma.

The Fox Talbot Museum commemorates the life and work of William Henry Fox Talbot the former resident of Lacock Abbey. A gentleman scholar of considerable social standing, he studied the arts and sciences and kept notes of his endeavours. In 1840 he discovered the negative/positive photographic process.
The Museum holds a large collection of Talbot images, notebooks and letters from the Lacock Abbey collection.
