St Judes Theatre
This building has been our home over the last 30 years and was known as St. Jude’s Hall. Many past and present members raised funds to purchase it in 1978. Recently we have undertaken refurbishment work in all areas of the property, including a new kitchen, new toilets, improvements to the stage area, lighting and access for the disabled, with further work to come, making it into a suitable small theatre
as well as being our rehearsal venue. Hence our new name - St Judes Theatre
This refurbishment has allowed us to present several ’summer season’ shows and many have enjoyed the carnival atmosphere of our cosy venue.
In 2007 we hope to repeat the success and we look forward to welcoming you to a new season of productions which, as last year, will be in the hands of loyal and talented members of the society.
SOCIETY AIMS AND ACTIVITIES
We stage two productions each year at Weston-super-Mare’s professional theatre, The Playhouse usually during the week following Easter and in mid October.
We also train a large group of children ranging from age 6 - 16 in theatre art called ’The Oppitts’. Many of these children have appeared in our main productions and featured especially in shows such as ’Oliver’. ’The Sound of Music’ and more recently ’The King and I’. They also have their own productions and concerts.
To celebrate the start of Christmas, the Society holds its annual Christmas Concert in St Judes Theatre. Both adult members and the Oppitts take part in an evening of Christmas music and carols followed by mince pies and coffee.
NEW MEMBERS
New members are always welcome and auditions are held twice a year in May and November.
