Lodge Park

Lodge Park

Lodge Park is situated on the picturesque Sherborne Estate and was created in 1634 by John ’Crump’ Dutton. Inspired by Dutton’s passion for gambling and banqueting, it’s a unique survival of what would have been called a grandstand, with a deer course and park. Until 1983 it was the home of Charles Dutton, 7th Lord Sherborne, when he bequeathed the estate to the National Trust.
The first project the Trust undertook was the reconstruction of the interior of the grandstand that relied totally on archaeological evidence.
The park behind was designed by Charles Bridgeman in 1725. It is 1,650 hectares of rolling countryside that has views down to the River Windrush. Much of the Sherborne village is owned by the Trust, including the post office and shop, school and social club.
There are walks available for all ages around the estate
